Posted 4/20/2017

HALSTEAD—Halstead’s first-ever Community Family Fun Night last Friday was a success, according to organizer Mary Wilson. Wilson estimated that 400 to 500 people attended. Families had a broad range of activities to choose from, including face painting, a bouncy obstacle course, a touch-a-truck event and various other games and contests.

One of the popular events was a demonstration by the Newton Police Department’s K-9 Unit by Corporal Tony Hawpe and Bella. Bella showed off her ability to track scents, locate drSARA Lee and Emily Gerhardt paint a tiger’s face onto a child’s face at the very popular face-painting booth. All these activities were free, and the event brought in its money through a silent auction, a bake sale and donations.

Wilson said she was very pleased with the amount of money that was raised this year. Proceeds go to the Dragon Kids Summer Program to help defray costs for children since many of the weeks include a field trip.
