HALSTEAD—A pile of ashes was discovered at the Halstead burn site on Friday, Dec. 29.  Dumped ashes like these have likely been the cause of two recent fires at the burn site that kept Halstead’s Fire Department tied up for days.

Ashes like these, from a charcoal grill, burn pit or chimney, are not allowed at the burn site. Only grass, leaves, branches, and yard waste are to be dumped at the burn site.

Ashes such as these should be soaked in water to prevent them from flaring up again. Ashes can hold heat for days. If someone were to dump dried grass, limbs, or leaves on top of the ashes above, another fire could break out. If residents do not stop dumping ashes at the burn site, it could be closed to the public.
