HALSTEAD—The halls are alive with the sound of music at Halstead High School as students have been rehearsing for their fall musical performance. “The Sound of Music” will be onstage this weekend.

The cast is led by senior Austyn White in the role of Maria, a strong-willed, independent nun who becomes a governess to the von Trapp family, transforming their lives through music and laughter.

“I love her,” White said about her character. “She has a different kind of personality than some of the vulnerable roles I’ve played in the past.”

A fan of “The Sound of Music” beforehand, being part of the show has increased White’s love of the musical.

“It makes me love it even more,” she said. “What a play to do my senior year.”

Sophomore Josh Loucks serves as Captain von Trapp, the strict widowed father to seven children, who are played by junior Kaitlyn Thomas, freshman Karenna Gerber, freshman Max Cubbage, junior Christian Wiedeman, freshman Thomas Porch, and Dalaina and Drihanna Schutte.

Altogether, about 60 students are involved in the cast and crew.
