SEDGWICK – The Hillside Cemetery in Sedgwick will soon be getting a new sign. The old sign was damaged several months ago. The new sign is a result of a family conversation and some hard work by a Sedgwick teen.

Susannah McGinn recalls driving past the cemetery and asking her husband Mike if the sign was going back up.  Mike thought fixing the sign would be a good community service project for their son, Kade.

Kade is a junior at Sedgwick High School and a member of the National Honor Society. NHS sponsor Beverly Lang said, “NHS membership is evaluated with scholarship, leadership, character, and service in mind. All sophomore and junior students who have a cumulative GPA of 3.6 or higher in April of each school year are invited to apply for membership. Each interested student then completes an activity form to be considered further. Then all high school faculty members are asked to review the candidates in the areas of leadership, character, and service. When ratings are complete, there is a faculty council that meets and discusses the student ratings and votes on their membership.”
