SEDGWICK—On Tuesday, third-grade students at R.L. Wright Elementary each received their very own Scholastic Children’s Dictionary. The dictionaries were presented to students by the Newton Rotary Club.

Rod Kreie and Leroy Koehn came to present the dictionaries. Kreie told the students that the Rotary Club is a team of people working to make the world a better place.

“We decided as an international group, Rotarians wanted to make it so no kids your age would die from Polio,” Kreie said. “There were 350,000 children who died from polio in 1987. We vaccinate between two and three million people each year. This year only 12 cases of polio have been reported, and none of those children died. That is what a group of people working together can do.”

Koehn told the students that locally, they wanted to do something for students in Harvey County. “Every child needs to know how to use a dictionary, and how to look things up. We raise money every year so we can give a brand new dictionary to each third-grader,” Koehn said.
