HALSTEAD—Halstead High School senior Bianca Gutierrez was spotlighted in the most recent edition of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes’ magazine. The magazine, published bimonthly, is distributed across the U.S. and around the world.

Gutierrez is one of four people profiled on the TeamFCA page, which is a regular feature of the magazine. In the profile, Gutierrez shares her favorite biblical story, favorite thing about FCA and her reason for following Jesus.

The opportunity to be in the magazine came through Aaron Glendening, who is the FCA Area Director for Western Kansas. The magazine editors had asked Glendening for students in his region to feature, and he passed that request along to high school FCA coaches, including Halstead’s FCA coach, Josh Johnson. Gutierrez filled out and submitted a questionnaire, and according to Glendening, the magazine editors loved her responses.

Halstead High School held a small recognition ceremony for Gutierrez last Wednesday afternoon.

“As much as she doesn’t want it to be a big deal, it really is, because it’s highlighting someone who’s in the ministry of FCA and has done some great things,” Glendening said.

Glendening said this is the first time a student from his Western Kansas region has been featured in the magazine.

Gutierrez has been involved with FCA for two years. This year she is serving as one of the group’s leaders. As an athlete, she’s been on Halstead’s cross country team two years, volleyball team two years and track team three years.
