Learning Center Gearing Up For Second-Annual O-Slim-Pics

HALSTEAD—As athletes from around the world prepare for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in South Korea this February, many residents of Halstead will be taking part in a fitness challenge of their own. The Kansas Learning Center for Health’s second-annual O-Slim-Pics is back and begins Jan. 8.

The O-Slim-Pics is an eight-week fitness challenge where teams of four log how much time they exercise, with the goal of having the most minutes built up over the course of the competition. It’s an opportunity to lose weight, increase strength and stamina, and develop healthy habits.

Registration will remain open through Friday, Jan. 12 even though the competition officially starts Jan. 8. The entry fee is $40 for a team of four, or $25 for an individual.

The O-Slim-Pics wrap up March 5, and the team that has logged the most minutes of exercise will receive a cash prize. The top three teams will also be refunded their entry fee.

Organizer Diana Schutte said this year’s O-Slim-Pics will be more focused on minutes exercised rather than pounds lost. The weigh-ins at the beginning and end of the program will be optional, yet participants will still have an opportunity to earn bonus minutes for losing weight or losing inches from their waistline.

Last winter the O-Slim-Pics had 138 participants in its inaugural year. Schutte said she is hoping for another big turnout this time around.
