CITY council passed a resolution Monday night calling for the house at 322 S. Reno to be demolished. The house was deemed unsafe after a fire last year.BURRTON—The City of Burrton took a step forward Monday night to demolish the house at 322 S. Reno that was damaged in a house fire last fall. Its owner perished in the fire, and since then the house has sat vacant.
In October of this year, the property was deemed unsafe and dangerous by a building inspector.
City council held a public forum on the property Monday night to give interested parties an opportunity to speak against the house’s condemnation. After no one spoke at the hearing, the council passed a resolution stating the property owner has until Feb. 2 to demolish the house. This deadline may be extended if the property owner requests so with good cause, as determined at the discretion of the governing body.
If the property owner fails to take any action by Feb. 2, the city may proceed with razing the building.
According to the Harvey County Appraiser’s website, the property is owned by CitiFinancial Inc.
