Burrton Home Track Meet To Feature New Timing System

Posted 4/13/2017

By Bill Bush

BURRTON—The home track meet on April 18 will mark the first opportunity the district gets to do a live test on its newest toy—a new timing system purchased as part of recent bond money.

The system uses a camera and bar-coded numbers to automatically record times and places for racers. Superintendent Joan Simoneau stated during Monday night’s school board meeting that the Goessel school district has used the same system and loves it. Officials from Goessel have agreed to help them set it up and learn how to run it before the meet.

High School Principal Tyler Hoopes shared that the system has been set up and tested inside the gym with some of the students. They hope to try it outside on the track before the meet in order to get familiar with the product. The new timing system will also be used for cross country in the fall.

Also being purchased with the bond money are windows for the central offices, middle school and elementary school. This project will be started after the school year ends. Simoneau said she hopes it will be finished by the end of July.
